We work with you to contour and bring more harmony to your face.

This particular patient was a particularly difficult case to approach. She had already formerly undergone eye surgery by a well-known surgeon in the states; however, she was not completely satisfied with the results. She heard about Dr. Peter Kim, our head surgeon here at EFIL; how he doesn't just look at the part of the body he operates on, but does so while considering harmony in the face. She saw our work online, was impressed and she decided to trust EFIL with her eye contour procedure.

She travelled a long way to come to Daegu. After we consulted with our new patient visitor, our surgical goal became clear: to try to decrease the width of the space between the eyes while, at the same time, making her underwhelming eyes more prominent.

The recovery period for our patient was tough. There was a lot of tearing and swelling in both eyes. However, after the first week passed, when the swelling started to subside, she was more than happy with her results.

If you too wish to have a procedure done for eye or facial contouring, visit our website here. We at EFIL are waiting for you.

Fat in the face can make your face look big and even give you an overall fat appearance. However, dieting alone may not be effective in getting rid of those "fat cheeks".

In order to get rid of fat particularly in the face, a deeper understanding of what body fat is and its relationship with muscles is necessary.

There is a general misconception that fat in the body is a bad or unhealthy thing, but fat actually plays a very important role in normal body functions. I hope you watch our video and learn a thing or two.

Please watch our video and make a step forward in living a more medically enlightened life. Don't worry, there are English subtitles ^^.

Bulging/Prominent Eyes

What exactly are bulging or prominent eyes?
Both terms refer to abnormal protrusion of the eyeball from the socket. Bulging eyes are acquired and usually a result of a medical condition, while prominent eyes are hereditary and tend to be less serious. The eye socket, also known as the orbit, is made up of four bones, all tasked with protecting the eye. If there is not enough space in the socket, namely, if the back portion of the socket it too narrow, the eyeball will protrude.

If you have bulging or prominent eyes, feel free to contact us for consultation. We here at EFIL are specialists in helping patients solve problems regarding eyeball protrusion.

The Secret to an ageless face!

The Secret to Having a Younger Face

Mankind has spent thousands of years searching for a ways to stay young and youthful looking. While tales of things like the Fountain of Youth may simply be myth, Dr. Peter Kim, plastic surgeon at EFIL Plastic Surgery Center in Daegu, Korea,  offers some medical insight into some of the reasons why we age and tips on how to fight the signs of it on our faces.

If you take a look at an animal (common everyday animals like dogs, cats, birds, etc.), is it possible to tell the age of the animal by looking at its face? Chances are, the answer to that question is 'no'. It's obvious when animals are young -- think pups, kittens and chicks -- but not quite as easy to tell an adult from an animal advanced in age. Aging in animals simply is not very well expressed in the face.

With that said, what makes human beings so different? For starters, animals, mammals in particular,  generally tend to walk or crawl on four legs. Of course there are exceptions, but the general rule is that, in any given animal, the heart and brain are going to be very close to horizontal to one another. What about in humans? We humans stand upright. Our brains and hearts are vertical to one another.

Due to the position of the brain being vertical to that of the heart, the heart has to work harder, against gravity, to get blood up to the brain. This isn't a problem for most of us when we are young, but as we get older -- and physically less active -- our circulatory systems become less efficient at getting blood up to the brain and, unfortunately, to our faces.

Dr. Kim explains the importance of getting adequate blood flow to the face in maintaining a youthful appearance, and even his advice on how to do so. If you want to know Dr. Kim's secret to a more youthful, slow-aging face make sure to check our video on YouTube. Don't forget to "Like" and/or subscribe to our channel if you yourself find the information helpful or would like to learn more. Don't worry, there are English subtitles ^^.

Not "big" eyes but "protruded" eyes (exophthalmos and prominent eyes)

Not “big eyes” but “protruded eyes”

Have you ever thought, “My eyes are too big for my face?” You aren’t alone. Chances are, however, it’s not your eyes that are the problem, it’s your orbit. When the orbit, the space behind the eye, is shallow, not allowing much space for the eye to sit properly, the result is a set of prominent eyes, eyes that protrude (think Kermit the frog). Then there are bulging eyes. Bulging eyes, or proptosis, are prominent (pun intended ^^) among individuals with a history of thyroid problems or conditions that affect intraocular pressure. Just like in prominent eyes, there is not enough space in the orbit and the eyes protrude.

There are a number of medical complications and problems that can arise due to bulging eyes; prominent eyes are usually hereditary and, for the most part, harmless. Be it a case of bulging eyes or prominent ones, as they are known to create an intense or overly serious look in the face of an individual, both may prove to be aesthetically displeasing.

If you feel that your eyes are too big for your face, then fear not. We here at EFIL can help you. We are specialists with over 10 years of experience treating patients with protruded eye. If you have any questions or wish to make any inquiries, please visit our homepage.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Symptoms of Exophthalmos (protruding/bulging eyes)

A feeling of an uncomfortable graininess in the eyes due to chronically dry eyes is common among people with bulging eyes. In extreme cases, the eyes may look bloodshot, there may even be pain. There are cases where the bulging eyes are a result of high intraocular pressure (pressure in the eye socket) and pose a danger to eyesight, particularly in cases where an individual suffers from thyroid dysfunction problems.

If you suffer from bulging eyes, or any of the symptoms associated with bulging eyes, don’t wait until it’s too late. Contact us here at our website for more information regarding treatment options.
