Orbital expansion surgery

When we perform orbital expansion surgery, scarring is invisible because the incision made for the procedure is done on the conjunctiva (the tissue lining the inside of the eyelid). Instead of taking out a large portion of bone from the orbital room (the space behind the eye) like in other practices, we use very specific instruments to finely cut and shape orbital bone. This allows more room for the eyeball to rest more comfortably in the socket. What is exophthalmos?

Exophthalmos (also known as proptosis or bulging eye) is the abnormal protrusion of the eye from its socket. It can be congenital – some people are just born with naturally protruded eyes, or prominent eyes – or it can develop over time, usually in conjunction with other health problems (thyroid dysfunction in particular). The eye socket is made up of four bones, all tasked with the role of protecting the eye. If there is not enough space in the socket, namely if the back portion of the socket is too narrow, the eyeball will protrude.
